The construction of Matrix ONE, the MVRDV-designed laboratory and office building in the heart of Amsterdam Science Park, is now complete. Serving as the main hub of the Matrix Innovation Center, the six-story, 13,000-square-metre building provides the campus with key social spaces and amenities. Crucially, the project also pushes the envelope in sustainable design: from demountable construction, the “social stairs”, and solar energy generation to smart lighting and generous amounts of bicycle parking, it incorporates sustainable thinking from every possible angle. Matrix ONE meets ambitious Amsterdam energy-use targets and is certified BREAAM- Excellent. The building’s users are also working on sustainability solutions: the University of Amsterdam’s SustainaLab works here on technologies for a sustainable future. Continue reading MVRDV

Given the complications of the Dutch nitrogen crisis, permit applications for projects in Natura 2000 protected areas have come to a standstill. How can Brabant find the balance between idyll and progress? Continue reading MVRDV

With an interior design by MVRDV, the store mixes the rugged and bold expression of the city of Rotterdam with the sophisticated yet warm aesthetic of the NIO brand. At the same time, it embraces NIO’s signature approach to its retail locations – which incorporate welcoming elements including a café, lounge, children’s play area, forum, work rooms, and art display – to create a flexible interior space that contributes to the vitality of its location on one of the city’s most prestigious shopping streets. MVRDV has completed construction of a new wholesale market for fruit and vegetables in Tainan. The open-air market not only serves as an important hub for Tainan’s food supply chain, but also as a destination for meeting, socialising, and taking in views of the surrounding landscape from the building’s accessible roof, thus promoting tourism in the region. In the future, the roof can be further developed, with the possibility to grow fruit and vegetables on top of the structure. Continue reading MVRDV
