The project for the new Cantonal Museum of Fine Arts (mcb-a) meets current requirements and standards for a large-scale museum retaining close links with the history of the site it occupies. The building will have two distinctive and carefully chosen features testifying to the site’s industrial past.
Firstly, the side wall of the nave, characterised by its geometry and its large window visible from the tracks to the south of the site. Secondly the façade of one of the aisles, where the doors of the old locomotive shed are clearly visible. The project thus creates an emotional and symbolic link with the historic building by preserving its most characteristic features.
