The Botnar Institute of Immune Engineering (BIIE) will focus on groundbreaking immunological research and will be housed in the ALL building on the main campus of the BaseLink Area in Allschwil. The ALL building, slated for completion in 2027, will provide over 20,000 square meters of space including flexible, state-of-the-art laboratories and workplaces for biomedical research, designed with high sustainability standards in mind.
Basel’s bid for this institute was successful against strong competition from major global locations, including the USA, Israel, Singapore, and the “Golden Triangle” of London, Oxford, and Cambridge in England. The Fondation Botnar has pledged a generous donation of one billion USD over the next 15 years to establish a cutting-edge scientific center dedicated to developing novel immune-based diagnostics and therapeutics. The BIIE will host 300 collaborators and aims to bridge the gap in modern healthcare technologies, with a special focus on improving the health of children and adolescents worldwide.
