Throughout her career, Salcedo has conducted extensive interviews with victims of political violence, transforming their experiences into sculptures that convey a sense of how their everyday lives are disrupted. The sculptures in this series span nearly two decades. Salcedo used only those materials that would be readily available to these victims, the majority of whom live in rural, impoverished areas of Colombia. She filled domestic furniture—such as armoires, bed frames, dressers, tables, and chairs—with concrete and, at times, clothing, rendering them functionless.
