Located in the heart of Edinburgh’s World Heritage Site and landlocked among historical buildings the project defines the end of the new town axis. The project is the home of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and will host the Edinburgh International Festival, reason why it will have exceptional acoustics together with the capacity to adapt to all types of performances. It seeks to create a Concert Hall that is not only a place for music but also becomes a public and cultural space for the city. The approach seeks to release the maximum public space as possible, reducing the footprint of the building and developing part of the program vertically. This creates a public, social and dynamic realm, transforming the existing center of the block from a hitherto unknown space into an intimate public square for the city of Edinburgh. Located on a privileged site, facing historic Saint-Malo “intramuros”, the Museum of Maritime History is an urban landmark that reactivates the importance of the site as a place for meetings and exchanges. Our project for the Museum proposes to preserve and intensify the memory of place marked by an industrial, maritime atmosphere. Here, certain elements of the landscape resonate particularly: the large fishing vessels with their nets and massive geometries, the color and materials of the slate roofs of the city center, the verticality and massiveness the city and finally, the footprint of Vauban’s National Fort and the Fort de la Conchée, just offshore.
