La Residencia de Mayores y Centro de Día en la c/ Mieses nº30 de Valladolid parte de la idea de entender el proyecto como un parque con un edificio. La parcela, ubicada en una zona de expansión suburbana anodina, propia de principios de este siglo, se halla en una zona intermedia, de frontera, entre un vial de gran capacidad y un parque urbano donde los árboles han conseguido alcanzar un porte considerable; rebasando la altura de algunos edificios próximos. Esta condición fue la base para considerar el parque como punto de referencia del proyecto; debiendo mimetizarse con él – por ejemplo, a través de sus carpinterías – ; considerando las luces y sombras de sus árboles – imitándolas, a través del juego orgánico de volúmenes entrantes y salientes -; o aprovechando la condición de sus hojas caducas que determinan con su color, brote y desaparición el paso del tiempo, al igual que si fuese un reloj, ayudando en su medida a fijar los meses en las personas con vulnerabilidad cognitiva. Castromonte is located in the region of Montes Torozos, in the province of Valladolid. It has 309 inhabitants and 106 wind turbines. A municipality carved in stone and crossed by the Camino de Santiago de Madrid, at the foot of the river Bajoz. For years, depopulation and the passing of the years have left its streets and the interior of its houses without sound. But, despite the greyish outline, it is a town that is not subject to an uncertain future. Taking advantage of the wind gold, the municipality has undertaken a series of actions aimed at recovering the population, including swimming pools, municipal plots of land for housing, a food center, and a plan to adapt the municipality to people with mobility problems, among other actions. Light, intended as the origin of the project; as an immaterial element that became the principle of the structural order. The origin of its rhythm and its proportion. The layout of the plot, on the east-west axis, imposed its search. The project was conceived from the section; as a vertical stacking system composed by a sequence of elements attached in height to each other with the sole purpose of exploiting natural lighting. With our project strategy, we were not only meant to achieve an appreciable energy saving, but we should also provide the working area with the most favorable, warm atmosphere for the development of working activities.
