Studio Bua has transformed a derelict concrete barn in rural Iceland into a home and artist’s studio. The barn at Hlöðuberg, Skarðsströnd is situated on a former farm overlooking the Breiðafjörður in western Iceland. After more than a decade of efforts made to build in Los Angeles, the Audrey Irmas Pavilion (Pavilion) marks OMA’s first cultural building in the city and first project for a religious institution. Located on Wilshire Boulevard, in the heart of Koreatown/Wilshire Center, the new 55,000 square foot Pavilion is a response to the Wilshire Boulevard Temple’s vision for its campus to create a much-needed space to convene. Präsent und prägnant zur Konradstrasse türmen sich die Wohnräume der Altersresidenz-Wohnungen mit symmetrisch zeichnender Fassadenfront. Die über die Verkehrsbaulinie entworfenen Terrassenauskragungen ermöglichen den Bewohnern den Strassenzug hinauf- und hinabzusehen und formen das Gebäude in eine zeitgenössische, selbstbewusste Stadterscheinung. Städtebaulich ist diese Front turmartig siebengeschossig präsent, wogegen die Wohnungen im Hof viergeschossig gestaltet sind um Luft und Freiraum für das Quartier mit einem neuen attraktiven Parkanteil zu bringen.
