Sergison Bates architekten have won an invited competition for two new buildings on neighbouring sites in Seebach, Zurich.
The brief invited proposals for two separate multi-storey structures of varying height, for intergenerational housing (Mehrgenerationenwohnen). The two buildings provide a total of 31 apartments of flexible layout, designed to suit a wide range of households and lifestyles. Penn Station and the historic James A. Farley Post Office proposal for a transformation into a world-class transportation hub. The project, known as the Empire Station Complex, will feature significant passenger improvements, including first-class amenities, natural light, increased train capacity and decreased congestion, and improved signage to dramatically enhance the travel experience. The project – which is anticipated to cost $3 billion – will be expedited by a public-private partnership in order to break ground this year and complete substantial construction within the next three years.
