Pavilion in EBERTSWIL . Hausen am Albis

The glass pavilion is part of a ensemble, consisting of a villa with chauffeur house, a garden house and barn, set within a large park. The whole estate has been listed in the historical building register in 1993. The estate, previously used as a single-family home, was adapted and expanded. During the week the estate is used for seminars and meetings for company guests, while on the weekends the property is being used privately.

In the garden the new pavilion completes the ensemble in the west and welcomes visitors at the end of the red driveway. In this delicate setting the addition of the pavilion had to be developed in close cooperation with the monument conservator. The pavilion is in stark contrast to the 100 year old villa, but at the same time takes up the theme of the belvedere as can be seen with the positioning of the old garden house.

The structure is built in the form of a crystalline mirrored glass structure which provides space for dining, meetings and events. Eight steel columns carry the tent like roof. No stabilizing walls were needed. The 360° glazing allows for an amazing view to the park with it’s old trees, dating back to the planning of the brothers Mertens and an earlier design of Theodor Fröbel.
