Catalan painter Joan Saló pays tribute to architects Enric Miralles and Carme Pinós by creating a one day site specific installation of large monochrome paintings at the chapel of the New Cemetery in Igualada, Barcelona. The award-winning cemetery was designed by the two architects in 1984, and is also the final resting place of Miralles. The one day intervention took place on June 18th with participation of the artist and writer Eduardo Lago. Visitors could stop by the whole day.
Under the name of “Hypnagogia“, Saló – whose work stands out for its meditative, repetitive style – shows six black large-scaled paintings that have been executed especially for the occasion. Referring to the transitional state from wakefulness to sleep, “Hypnagogia“ invites the viewer to reflect about the cycle of life.
