Refurbishment of an apartment located in an industrial building built in the 50s in the Guinardó neighborhood in Barcelona.
Conceived as a small open storey workshop -with a surface of about 75sqm- the main interest of the pre-existence is the structure made of concrete frames and slabs of concrete joists and ceramic vaults, partially hidden by the successive transformations of the space.
The intervention starts from the demolition of those added elements that had been blurring the original architecture.
The organization of the space is solved by two pieces of furniture that underline the existing framed structure, establishing a difference between the pre-existing and the added, the permanent and the ephemeral.
The space is organized through both pieces of furniture, which provides a certain permeability, enables natural light access in the furthest areas from the façade and partly solves storage requirements.
The program is organized into three areas linked to the diaphragmatic order of space. Access is through the kitchen, the brightest room, opened to the main façade. The center of gravity of the house is a multipurpose space of almost 40sqm corresponding to 2 structural modules. The third area contains the bedroom and the bathroom, which is conceived as an autonomous and immaterial box.
The dominant materiality is the ceramic of the existing walls, the pine wood of the furniture and the new stoneware flooring, conceived as a uniform carpet that covers the entire house, with the occasionally introduction of a second format of the same material that underlines the thresholds.
An existing door is reused to solve the access to the bathroom and some elements anchored in the walls that evoke the industrial memory of the place are untouched.

Reforma interior de un apartamento situado en un edificio de origen industrial construido en los años 50 en el barrio del Guinardó de Barcelona. Concebido como un pequeño taller de planta diáfana -con una superficie de unos 75m2- el principal interés de la preexistencia es la estructura de pórticos de hormigón y forjados de viguetas de hormigón y bovedillas cerámicas, semioculta por las sucesivas transformaciones del espacio. La intervención parte del derribo de aquellos elementos añadidos, de poco valor, que habían ido desdibujando la arquitectura original. La organización del espacio se resuelve mediante dos piezas de mobiliario que se apoyan y subrayan la estructura porticada existente, estableciendo siempre una diferencia entre lo preexistente y lo añadido, lo permanente y lo efímero. El espacio se organiza a través de dichos muebles, que aportan cierta permeabilidad, posibilitan el acceso solar en las zonas más alejadas de la fachada y resuelven, en parte, los requerimientos de almacenamiento. El programa se organiza en tres ámbitos coherentes con el orden diafragmático del espacio. El acceso se produce por la cocina, la estancia más luminosa, abierta a la fachada principal. El centro de gravedad de la vivienda es un espacio polivalente de casi 40m2 correspondiente a dos módulos estructurales. El tercer ámbito contiene el dormitorio y el baño, que se concibe como una caja autónoma, inmaterial. La materialidad dominante es la cerámica de los paramentos existentes, la madera de pino de los muebles y el nuevo pavimento de gres porcelánico, concebido como una alfombra uniforme que cubre toda la vivienda, con la introducción puntual de un segundo formato del mismo material que resigue los umbrales. Se reutiliza una puerta existente para resolver el acceso al baño y se preservan intactos algunos elementos anclados a las paredes que evocan la memoria industrial del lugar.
