The building is placed on the vast terrain, showing itself as an element with own identity. It does not try to get a formal relation with the context, it relates to the city through the function. It wants to be an activity cluster, a meeting point for the neighborhood. It is a public building, a covered Agora where all kind of activities can happen. The facade unfolds to make the gap between inside and outside disappear. The ground floor is completely open to the outside. A formal concrete “Portico” dignifies the main entrance to the building.
ENCUENTROS EN LA TERCERA FASE
The building is understood as an infrastructure. It is assembled by a clear prefab concrete grid that enables the transformation of the building in the future. The irregularity of the grid helps to diversify the space and its different uses, leaving the center of the building for the more collective uses and the periphery for more intimate uses.
The building has a clear segregation of the program in both floors. Whereas the ground floor is understood as a “loud” library, the top floor is a quite level, more similar to the common library we know. The main reading room is inscribed as a perfect circle inside the shelving system of the library. This allows the room to have a separated function to the rest of the library.
The building is a machine. It is thought to be a self sufficient equipment by integrating several passive and active systems that can help the building to have zero waste of energy, even generating positive energy for other uses or buildings around.
